Baseball Recap: Central Find Success

It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Central had no problem doing just that on Friday. They skirted past the Olympian Eagles 4-2. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Spartans have posted since March 15th.

Central got a great performance from Donnovan Diaz as he pitched six innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off eight hits. Diaz has become a key player for the Spartans: the team is 2-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 10-16 otherwise.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Freddy Terrazas, who went 2-for-3 with one triple and one run.

Central was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .375. They are 8-2 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

Central has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matchups. That's provided a massive bump to their 12-17 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.3 runs over those games. As for Olympian, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost seven of their last eight games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 16-14-1 record this season.

Central has already played their next contest, a 7-3 defeat against Palo Verde Valley on the 24th. Olympian does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
