Football Recap: Palmer Comes Up Short

Palmer extended their losing streak to five on Friday, dropping them down to 2-6. They took a blow against the Anselmo-Merna Coyotes, falling 56-8. While losing is never fun, the Tigers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Nebraska football rankings (they are ranked 99th, while the Coyotes are ranked eighth).

Jackson Friedrichsen threw for 55 yards and one touchdown. Titus Scheer was his top target, picking up 45 receiving yards. On the ground, Owen Schwarz rushed for 28 yards.

As for Anselmo-Merna, the win (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 7-1. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 56.0 points over those games.

Dane Duryea produced another solid effort rushing for 126 yards and five TDs on only 13 carries. His rushing production has been exceptional recently as that marked his fourth straight game with at least 125 rushing yards. The team also got some help courtesy of Timmy Myers, who gained 96 total yards and a touchdown.

Palmer does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Anselmo-Merna, they will welcome Lyons-Decatur Northeast at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. That matchup will pit two of the most dominant signal callers against one another: Duryea and Brady Hayes.
