Basketball Recap: Evergreen Drops Season-High Score on Wheat Ridge

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Evergreen). They claimed a resounding 58-21 win over the Wheat Ridge Farmers. Perhaps unsurprisingly given the team's high-flying offense, the game also marked the team's biggest victory of the season.

Evergreen was led to victory by Elle Buenning and Taylor Bailey. Buenning went 8 of 13 on her way to 17 points in addition to six rebounds and five steals, while Bailey went 7 for 14 to rack up 18 points. Bailey continues to improve, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. Lily Sullivan was another key player, putting up six points and seven boards.

Evergreen was working as a unit and finished the game with 12 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Wheat Ridge only posted three assists.

When it comes to explaining why Wheat Ridge lost on Wednesday, don't look at Sky Copeland. Despite the final result, she posted seven points and five rebounds. The dominant performance also gave Copeland a new career-high in shooting accuracy (75%). Kailey Mason also deserves some recognition as she grabbed her first steal of the season.

Evergreen's win was their first in the league, bumping their league record up to 1-2 and their overall record up to 7-10. As for Wheat Ridge, they are on a 15-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-15.

Evergreen wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 79-27 loss against Green Mountain on the 1st. As for Wheat Ridge, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 59-17 defeat against Centaurus on the 31st.
