Baseball Game Preview: Gueydan Bears vs. South Cameron Tarpons

Gueydan is on a five-game streak of home losses, and South Cameron a five-game streak of away losses. However, someone's due for a change in luck on Saturday. The Gueydan Bears will look to defend their home field against the South Cameron Tarpons at 4:30 p.m. South Cameron took a loss in their last matchup and will be looking to turn the tables on Gueydan, who comes in off a win.

Gueydan is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They put the hurt on V.B. Glencoe Charter with a sharp 22-4 win on Friday. Perhaps unsurprisingly given the team's high-flying offense, the game also marked the team's biggest victory of the season.

Joshua Mayer made a splash while hitting and pitching. He struck out six batters over four innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off six hits. That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in February. He was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 3-for-5.

In other batting news, Shawn Perrin was incredible, going 3-for-4 with one home run, three stolen bases, and four runs. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in RBI (four). Another player making a difference was Charlie Thibodeaux, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 3-for-4.

Gueydan always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .605. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Meanwhile, South Cameron lost 11-1 to Starks on Friday.

Gueydan's win bumped their record up to 6-15. As for South Cameron, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-11.

Gueydan took their victory against South Cameron in their previous matchup back in March of 2023 by a conclusive 16-1 score. Do the Bears have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Tarpons turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
