Baseball Recap: Apex Wins Going Away Against Southern Lee

Apex entered their tilt with Southern Lee on Thursday with two consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with three. They never let the Cavaliers get on the board and left with a 12-0 victory. That 12 run margin sets a new team best for the Cougars this season.

The result came thanks to DANE PURDY's shutout, as he gave up just a hit and racked up eight Ks.

At the plate, Apex got a massive performance out of ADRIAN GONZALEZ, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. GONZALEZ has become a key player for the Cougars: the team is 6-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 4-5 otherwise. Another player making a difference was CONNOR MORRISEY, who scored two runs while going 3-for-4.

Apex pushed their record up to 10-6 with the win, which was their third straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.0 runs over those games. As for Southern Lee, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 10-5.

Coming up, Apex will challenge Middle Creek at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Southern Lee, they will look to defend their home field on Tuesday against Union Pines at 7:00 p.m.
