Volleyball Preview: Stevens Raiders vs. Gering Bulldogs
Stevens has enjoyed a three-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will head out to square off against the Gering Bulldogs at 5:55 p.m. on Saturday. Stevens will be strutting in after a victory while Gering will be coming in after a defeat.
Last Thursday, Stevens was able to grind out a solid win over Rapid City Central, taking the game 3-1.
Meanwhile, Gering was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They fell just short of Ogallala by a score of 3-2.
In a back-and-forth that saw neither team win consecutive sets, Gering sadly dropped the once that decided the match. The final score came out to 27-25, 19-25, 34-32, 20-25, 15-11.
Gering's defeat came about despite a quality game from Abby Schanaman, who had nine digs.
Even though they lost, Gering was lethal from the service line and finished the game with ten aces. That's the most aces they've posted since back in September.
Stevens' victory bumped their record up to 12-6. As for Gering, their loss dropped their record down to 12-8.
Stevens was able to grind out a solid win over Gering when the teams last played back in September of 2018, winning 2-0. Does Stevens have another victory up their sleeve, or will Gering turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
