Basketball Recap: Providence Classical Christian Academy Comes Up Short

After flying high against The Fulton on Thursday, Providence Classical Christian Academy came back down to earth. The Panthers took a 53-40 hit to the loss column at the hands of First Baptist Academy on Friday. The Panthers were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as First Baptist Academy apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in November of 2019.

Despite the defeat, Providence Classical Christian Academy saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Owen Mattull shot 47% from the field en route to 20 points and five boards. John Glover was another key player, putting up seven points and three steals.

Providence Classical Christian Academy's loss was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 1-6. As for First Baptist Academy, the win got them back to even at 1-1.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Providence Classical Christian Academy will host Heritage Classical Christian Academy at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. As for First Baptist Academy, they will square off against East Alton-Wood River at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
