The Bishop Gorman Gaels will face off against the Centennial Bulldogs at 4:00 p.m. on Monday.
Legacy hit Bishop Gorman with a five-run second inning on Thursday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Gaels took a 10-5 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Longhorns. The Gaels have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Bishop Gorman got a good showing from Justin Rodrigues, who tossed 1.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. That's the fewest hits Rodrigues has allowed since back in April.
On the hitting side, Patrick Kozielec was cooking despite his team's loss, going 3-for-4 with one triple and one double.
Meanwhile, Centennial faced Faith Lutheran in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Wednesday. The Bulldogs' pitcher stepped up to hand the Crusaders a 10-0 shutout. The Bulldogs might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 12 games by seven runs or more this season.
Kane Barber tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run over five innings pitched. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one walk in four consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Noa Oyadomari was excellent, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.
Centennial was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .391. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Faith Lutheran only posted a batting average of .158.
Centennial pushed their record up to 19-12 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Bishop Gorman, their defeat dropped their record down to 18-12.
Bishop Gorman skirted past Centennial 4-3 in their previous meeting back in May of 2023. Will the Gaels repeat their success, or do the Bulldogs have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
