Softball Recap: Lancaster Catholic Gets the Win

Lancaster Catholic hadn't done well against Annville-Cleona recently (they were 0-7 in their previous seven matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Monday. The Crusaders came out on top in a nail-biter against the Dutchmen, sneaking past 10-8. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Crusaders considering their one-run performance the game before.

Kailee Detz made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out nine batters over seven innings while giving up three earned (and five unearned) runs off six hits (and only one walk). She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two RBI and one double. That double was her first of the season.

In other batting news, Ava Pisano was incredible, scoring two runs while going 4-for-4. She also hit two doubles, marking her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Angelina Calhoun, who went 3-for-4 with three runs and one triple.

The victory made it two in a row for Lancaster Catholic and bumps their season record up to 8-2. They've had to fight for that success though, as they only beat their opponents by an average of 1.5 runs across that stretch. As for Annville-Cleona, the defeat snapped their winning streak at four games and leaves them with a 5-2 record.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Lancaster Catholic will host Columbia at 4:15 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Annville-Cleona, they will challenge Octorara Area at 4:15 p.m. on Wednesday.
