Basketball Recap: Katy Taylor Proves Higher State Rank Is No Mistake

Katy Taylor had already proven themselves in the regular season and they didn't miss a beat now that it's playoff time. They walked away with a 76-63 win over the Alief Hastings Bears on Monday. Given the Mustangs' advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 134th, while the Bears are ranked 299th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Despite the loss, Alief Hastings still got an impressive performance from Amyah Weathersby, who dropped a double-double with 21 points and 15 rebounds. Weathersby's evening made it 15 games in a row in which she has scored at least 17 points. Another player making a difference was Favour Emeka, who went 7-for-13 en route to 20 points in addition to seven boards and four steals.

Katy Taylor is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five contests, which provided a nice bump to their 25-8 record this season. As for Alief Hastings, their loss dropped their record down to 21-12.

Katy Taylor has already played their next game, an 84-40 victory against Bellaire on the 14th. Alief Hastings does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
