Basketball Recap: University Takes a Loss

University was the 66-55 winner over Sterling when they last played one another back in January, but their luck changed this time around. The University Bulldogs took a 59-49 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Sterling Tigers on Friday.

When it comes to explaining why University lost, don't look at Coehn Nitzel. Despite the final result, he almost dropped a double-double with 17 points and nine rebounds. Nitzel has been hot for a while, having also posted two or more steals the last 19 times he's played. Marcus Prestwich was another key player, putting up seven points and three steals.

University's defeat was their first in the league, dropping their league record down to 8-1 and their overall record down to 14-4. As for Sterling, they are on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last ten contests, which provided a nice bump to their 13-6 record this season.

University and Sterling should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps Colorado Rankings. University will take on Weld Central at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday up 207 places (88 vs. 295). University is coming into the game hot, having won their last eight games. Meanwhile, Sterling (ranked 69th) will meet Fort Morgan (ranked 231st) at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. University is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 70.1 points per game this season.
