Basketball Recap: Jamari Cottingham's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Basic over Faith Lutheran

Basic fought the good fight in their overtime game against Faith Lutheran on Wednesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell 69-58 to the Faith Lutheran Crusaders. Sadly, that's the second time they've come up short against the Wolves this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 54-49 back in December of 2024.

Basic lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being JaMari Cottingham, who went 7 for 16 en route to 17 points in addition to eight boards and three steals. Cottingham has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last three times he's played. Another player making a difference was Hunter McGory, who posted 11 points along with five rebounds and three steals.

Basic now has a losing record at 9-10. As for Faith Lutheran, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 13-10.

Basic won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Boulder City at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. Boulder City will roll in looking for their ninth straight victory, something Basic surely won't give up without a fight. As for Faith Lutheran, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Bonanza at 6:30 p.m. on Monday.
