Basketball Recap: Kolby Hoyer Key Part of a Team Effort in Firebirds Win

On Tuesday, the Eastmark Firebirds made easy work of the Coronado Dons and carried off a 78-58 victory. Given the Firebirds' advantage in MaxPreps' Arizona basketball rankings (they are ranked 113th, while the Dons are ranked 283rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Eastmark got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Kolby Hoyer out in front who went 10 of 14 en route to 27 points and five steals. Those 27 points gave Hoyer a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Rhys Walcott, who went 6 for 10 from beyond the arc on his way to 21 points and six assists.

Eastmark is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 15-9 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 69.8 points per game. As for Coronado, they have been struggling recently as they've lost 12 of their last 13 games, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-14 record this season.
