Football Recap: Gregory-Portland Wildcats vs. Sinton Pirates

Gregory-Portland was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their fifth straight defeat dating back to last season. They received a blow as they fell 42-27 to the Sinton Pirates. While losing is never fun, the Wildcats can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 678th, while the Pirates are ranked 212th).

Loss or not, Gregory-Portland got some senior leadership from Reed Dooms and Brandon Coates. Dooms rushed for 84 yards and two touchdowns, while Coates picked up 171 receiving yards and two touchdowns. With that strong performance, Coates is now averaging an impressive 100.8 receiving yards per game.

Leading Sinton to victory were Mykha Green and Triston Handson. Green gained 224 total yards and two touchdowns, while Handson rushed for 146 yards and four touchdowns. Green really tore up the turf during one magnificent 72-yard run. Jacoby James did his part to keep the secondary busy, picking up 139 receiving yards.

Gregory-Portland's defeat dropped their record down to 0-4. As for Sinton, the win for them keeps them at an undefeated 4-0.

Gregory-Portland will challenge Alice at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Sinton, they will head out on the road to square off against Miller at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Sinton is looking to tack on another W to their six-game streak on the road dating back to last season.
