Softball Game Preview: Turpin Spartans vs. Bishop Brossart Mustangs

The Turpin Spartans will venture away from home to take on the Bishop Brossart Mustangs at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday.

Turpin can't be to happy about their upcoming road matchup considering what happened when they opened their season on the away from home on Saturday. They took a 6-2 hit to the loss column at the hands of Ironton. Sadly, the loss continues a streak the team started last season, making it seven in a row.

Meanwhile, Bishop Brossart put another one in the bag on Wednesday to keep their perfect season alive. They came out on top against Gallatin County by a score of 7-2.

Cayce Merkley spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on eight hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one walk any time she's pitched this season.

On the hitting side, Rachel Shewmaker was incredible, firing off two home runs and five RBI while going 2-for-3. The team also got some help courtesy of Sophie Schultz, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3.
