Community has gone 9-1 against Cascade recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Tuesday. The Vikings/Viqueens will look to defend their home field against the Champions at 5:30 p.m. Community is coming into the match hot, having won their last ten games.
Community proved they can win big last Monday (they won by 15) and on Thursday they proved they can win the close ones too. They had just enough and edged out Forrest 3-2.
Taylar Wessner spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on six hits and racked up six Ks. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than one walk in six consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Carlie Blanton was excellent, going 1-for-2 with one home run.
Cascade let Tullahoma stack five runs on them in the third inning on Thursday but luckily Cascade prevailed anyway. The Champions won by a run and slipped past the Wildcats 9-8. The victory continues a trend for the Champions in their matchups with the Wildcats: they've now won three in a row.
Jocelyn Laughlin was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She pitched seven innings while giving up three earned (and five unearned) runs off nine hits. Laughlin was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of her five plate appearances with one run.
In other batting news, Hunter Burt was a standout: she went a perfect 4-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one double. Those two runs gave her a new career-high. Makayla Fisher was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.
Community pushed their record up to 21-2-2 with the win, which was their 13th straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.8 runs on average over those games. As for Cascade, the win got them back to even at 6-6.
Community took their victory against Cascade in their previous meeting last Monday by a conclusive 15-0 score. Will the Vikings/Viqueens repeat their success, or do the Champions have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
