Basketball Game Preview: Crystal City Javelinas vs. Hondo Owls

Crystal City is 9-1 against Hondo since January of 2021 and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Friday. The Crystal City Javelinas will square off against the Hondo Owls at 7:30 p.m. Crystal City will be looking to extend their current seven-game winning streak.

On Tuesday, Crystal City got the win against Lytle by a conclusive 81-58. The Javelinas have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won nine matches by 21 points or more this season.

Crystal City can attribute much of their success to Jayden Rousseau, who went 12 of 20 on his way to 30 points along with eight rebounds and five assists, and Christopher Mena, who went 9 for 22 en route to 20 points in addition to five assists and five boards. With that strong performance, Rousseau is now averaging an impressive 15.4 points per game. Another player making a difference was Jordan Urrabazo, who went 5 of 9 on his way to 12 points.

Crystal City smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive rebounds. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 9 offensive boards per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 games they've averaged 12.7.

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Hondo, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Friday. They walked away with a 69-57 win over Cotulla on Tuesday.

Crystal City is also on a roll lately: they've won 13 of their last 14 contests, which provided a nice bump to their 16-7 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 72.9 points per game. As for Hondo, they pushed their record up to 11-17 with the victory, which was their fifth straight at home.

Crystal City beat Hondo 70-59 when the teams last played on January 7th. The rematch might be a little tougher for Crystal City since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
