Westborough proved they can win big on Wednesday (they won by three) and on Monday they proved they can win the close ones too. They had just enough and edged out the Hopkinton Hillers 3-2. The win was nothing new for the Rangers as they're now sitting on six straight.
It was an exciting match in which no team won back-to-back sets, but at the end of the day Westborough got the one that really mattered. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-18, 23-25, 25-13, 21-25, 15-8.
Al Regnier paced Westborough's offense, picking up 28 kills. Regnier got some help from Charlotte Dullea and her 41 assists. Kathleen O'Reilly controlled things from the service line, finishing with six aces.
Despite the defeat, Hopkinton had strong showings from Gabby Pattie, who had four digs and three aces, and Sydney Stephen, who had 22 digs and one assist. Pattie is also on a roll when it comes to assists, as she's now posted 17 or more in each of the last four games she's played. Eleanor Paquette was another key player, getting 14 digs.
Westborough's victory bumped their record up to 7-1. As for Hopkinton, their loss ended a six-match streak of wins at home and dropped them to 7-3.
Westborough has already played their next match, a 3-0 defeat against Shrewsbury on the 30th. As for Hopkinton, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 3-1 win against Ashland on the 30th.
