Softball Recap: Covenant Day Wins Going Away Against Gaston Christian

Covenant Day made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Gaston Christian, but they still couldn't quite topple them. Covenant Day was the clear victor by a 16-3 margin over Gaston Christian on Thursday. The result was nothing new for the Lions, who have now won five games by eight runs or more so far this season.

The team relied heavily on Avery Houseton, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, six RBI, and two runs. Those six RBI gave her a new career-high. Reilly Jane (RJ) Llaneza was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-3.

Houseton wasn't the only one working in the hit department: Covenant Day kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least 12 hits in three consecutive matches.

Covenant Day's win bumped their record up to 5-1-1. As for Gaston Christian, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-5.

Covenant Day didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, an 8-2 victory against Wando on the 17th. As for Gaston Christian, they will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Cannon at 4:30 p.m. on the 25th. Gaston Christian's pitchers better be ready for this one: Cannon has averaged an impressive 8.3 runs per game this season.
