The Whiteland Warriors will challenge the Franklin Community Grizzly Cubs at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Whiteland is coming into the contest hot, having won their last four games.
Whiteland is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Friday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 4-2 victory over East Central.
Peyton Wingfield tossed a big game, pitching 6.1 innings while giving up just two earned runs off six hits.
At the plate, Peyton Dickens was excellent, going 1-for-2 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one double. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since May 2nd. The team also got some help courtesy of Colton Shipp, who went 1-for-2 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Franklin Community had to endure a three-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. Everything went their way against Columbus East on Friday as they made off with an 8-2 win. The result was nothing new for the Grizzly Cubs, who have now won eight games by six runs or more so far this season.
Braeden Burton spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered just two earned runs on seven hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in nine consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Landen Basey, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases and two runs. Another player making a difference was Owen Bullington, who got on base in two of his four plate appearances with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
Whiteland's record now sits at 15-9. As for Franklin Community, their record is now 16-9.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Monday as neither team is afraid to steal. Whiteland has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 5.1 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Franklin Community struggles in that department as they've been averaging 3.1 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Whiteland came up short against Franklin Community in their previous matchup back in April, falling 5-1. Can the Warriors avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
