C1 District 1 recap October 22, 2013

Arlington extended the longest winning streak in C1 District 1 this week by beating Boys Town, 49-22. The victory was the fourth in a row for the Eagles.

The Cowboys lost to Arlington 49-22 last week, the largest margin of any game. Telvin Davis was a bright spot for Boys Town, as he ran for 89 yards in the defeat.

Fort Calhoun's dynamic duo of Frederick Lehmen and Tyler Pace proved tough for Douglas County West to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Lehmen threw for 222 yards and Pace had 114 yards receiving. Jon Keenan helped Fort Calhoun's passing attack out by catching 4 balls for 94 yards.

Jonathan Smailys was a beast in the backfield as Steven Gubbels' team defeated Kevin Kush's team.

Ben Fletcher was a key player and the best on defense this week as Concordia defeated West Point-Beemer. The 6-foot-2 senior pulled down 1 interception and recorded 1 fumble.

The Mustangs' Tanner Torosian and Fletcher have formed a dream team this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. 6-0 quarterback Torosian has thrown for 884 yards this season, while Fletcher has 30 catches for 438 yards. The Eagles' Smailys leads the league in rushing yards with 942.

Fans will be treated to a premier battle in the secondary when Concordia's Fletcher goes up against the Pioneers' Ben Namuth.

Arlington's Smailys needs only 58 yards against the Falcon next week to surpass 1,000 rushing yards for the season. Smailys has rushed for 942 yards on 185 carries so far this year.

Next week's game between Steve Warren's team and Fort Calhoun will feature an aerial matchup as Torosian tests his arm against Namuth's defensive ability.

As it stands, the Mustangs are in second, while Andrew Christensen's team is in third.

Concordia made the biggest leap in the national rankings this week, rising to 11,011 from 12,017. They were able to move up in the ranks after a 16-7 victory over the Cadets last week.
