Softball Recap: Notre Dame Prep Snaps Four-Game Streak of Wins at Home

Notre Dame Prep dropped their record down to 22-8 on Wednesday, which also ended the team's four-game streak of wins at home. They fell just short of the Utica Chieftains by a score of 7-6. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Fighting Irish of the 9-8 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in April of 2021.

Katherine Healy led a balanced group of hitters, going 3-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. She has been hot, having posted at least one stolen base the last seven times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Kalyn Marlinga, who went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, one triple, and two RBI.

As for Utica, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 13-14-1. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.0 runs over those games.

On Utica's side, Violet Smith spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and three unearned) runs on six hits and racked up ten Ks.

On the hitting side, Rachel Durecki was excellent, going 1-for-4 with three runs and one triple. That's the most runs she has posted since back in May of 2024. Another player making a difference was Alora Hogsten, who went 2-for-3 with two doubles.

Notre Dame Prep does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Utica, they will look to defend their home field on Thursday against Utica Eisenhower at 4:30 p.m.
