Basketball Recap: Spalding Takes a Loss

Spalding was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their fourth straight defeat. The contest between them and the Mary Persons Bulldogs didn't end well, with the Spalding Jaguars falling 50-33. Sadly, that's the second time they've come up short against the Jaguars this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 62-39 back in December of 2024.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Mary Persons to victory, but perhaps none more so than Jonleah Johnson, who almost dropped a double-double on 19 points and nine steals. The dominant performance gave Johnson a new career-high in steals. Zoey Shannon was another key player, dropping a double-double on 11 points and 18 rebounds.

Spalding's loss dropped their record down to 2-17. As for Mary Persons, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 7-14.

Spalding wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next matchup, a 74-28 defeat against Sandy Creek on the 29th. As for Mary Persons, they are taking a road trip to challenge Trinity Christian at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
