Softball Preview: Perryville Pirates vs. Jefferson Blue Jays

Perryville and Jefferson are an even 4-4 against one another since August of 2015, but likely not for long. The Perryville Pirates will venture away from home to take on the Jefferson Blue Jays at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.

Perryville's hitters might be in the hot seat on Thursday considering what happened against Chaffee two weeks ago. They came up short against the Red Devils, falling 15-0.

Meanwhile, Jefferson entered their tilt with Valley Park on Wednesday with two consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with three. They had just enough and edged the Hawks out 5-4. While the Blue Jays didn't have the best season last year (they finished 6-15), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.

Reese Humphrey spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and two unearned) runs on five hits. The dominant performance gave her a new career-high in OBP.

On the hitting side, Kaia Stanley was excellent, going 2-for-2 with a stolen base and an RBI.

Perryville's loss dropped their record down to 0-2. As for Jefferson, their record is now 4-1.
