Basketball Game Preview: North Providence Cougars vs. Smithfield Sentinels

The North Providence Cougars will head out to take on the Smithfield Sentinels at 1:00 p.m. on Monday. Smithfield took a loss in their last match and will be looking to turn the tables on North Providence, who comes in off a win.

On Thursday, everything came up roses for North Providence against Woonsocket as the team secured a 70-39 win. The Cougars have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won six games by 21 points or more this season.

Meanwhile, Smithfield faced Narragansett in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Thursday. Smithfield received a blow as they fell 51-34 to Narragansett. The Sentinels' defeat signaled the end of their three-game winning streak.

North Providence's victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 6-3. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 39.2 points. As for Smithfield, their loss dropped their record down to 4-4.

North Providence took a serious blow against Smithfield in their previous meeting back in February of 2022, falling 57-30. Can North Providence avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
