Baseball Recap: Hockinson Gets the Win

Hockinson hadn't done well against Columbia River recently (they were 0-9 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Wednesday. The Hawks came out on top in a nail-biter against the Rapids, sneaking past 5-4. For the Hawks, this counts as revenge for the 4-3 win the Rapids walked away with the last time they faced one another back in April of 2024.

Graham Learing spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered four runs (all of which were unearned) on four hits and racked up 11 Ks. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one walk in six consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Hockinson's victory was truly a team effort as five different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Noah Tadema, who went 1-for-2 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

The win made it two in a row for Hockinson and bumps their season record up to 2-10. They've had to fight for that success though, as they only beat their opponents by an average of 1.5 runs across that stretch. As for Columbia River, they moved to 10-3 with that loss, which also ended their nine-game winning streak.

Hockinson will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Rapids: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 4:30 p.m. on Friday.
