King's Academy and Sequoia are an even 4-4 against one another since April of 2015, but likely not for long. The Knights will head out on the road to face off against the Ravens at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. King's Academy's pitching crew has only allowed 3.6 runs per game this season, so Sequoia's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
Things were looking good for King's Academy after they put the first runs on the board back in March, but unfortunately for them things went downhill from there. They fell just short of Capuchino by a score of 4-2. The Knights' defeat signaled the end of their three-game winning streak.
Nate Plata was cooking despite his team's loss, going 1-for-2 with one triple, one stolen base, and one run. That triple was his first of the season.
Meanwhile, Sequoia got the win against Half Moon Bay on Wednesday by a conclusive 14-1. The contest marked the Ravens' most dominant victory of the season so far.
Derek Hymer made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing three innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, scoring two runs while getting on base in three of his five plate appearances.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Vince Olinger Giani, who scored two runs while getting on base in three of his five plate appearances. Another player making a difference was Garrett Johnson, who scored a run while getting on base in three of his six plate appearances.
Sequoia was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .375. The last time their batting average was this high was back in February of 2024.
Sequoia has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a nice bump to their 7-5 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 6.8 runs over those games. As for King's Academy, the loss was their first at home , dropping their record down to 5-3.
King's Academy beat Sequoia 6-1 when the teams last played back in April of 2024. Do the Knights have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Ravens turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
