Baseball Game Preview: Valders Vikings vs. Brillion Lions

The Valders Vikings will square off against the Brillion Lions at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Valders is coming into the contest on a four-game losing streak.

New Holstein hit Valders with a four-run fourth inning on Thursday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Vikings fell just short of the Huskies by a score of 5-3.

Jack Wendling made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-3 with four stolen bases. Valders is 2-1 when Wendling posts two or more stolen bases, but 1-4 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Austin Ebert, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Brillion, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Thursday. They skirted past Bonduel 2-1. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last five times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.

Landon Mathes made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he pitched seven innings while giving up just one earned run off five hits. What's more, he posted four strikeouts, the most he's had since back in May of 2024. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.

Brillion's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 4-4. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.7 runs over those games. As for Valders, their loss dropped their record down to 3-5.

Valders suffered a grim 13-1 defeat to Brillion in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Can the Vikings avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
