Basketball Preview: Pharr-San Juan-Alamo Bears vs. Edinburg Bobcats
Pharr-San Juan-Alamo has enjoyed a three-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will square off against the Edinburg Bobcats at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Pharr-San Juan-Alamo will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Texas Rankings (they are ranked 1061st, while the Bobcats are ranked 81st).
Last Tuesday, Pharr-San Juan-Alamo came up short against the Cougars and fell 39-31.
Meanwhile, Edinburg came tearing into Tuesday's matchup with 16 straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 36.2 points) and they left with even more momentum. They took their game at home with ease, bagging a 81-24 win over La Joya. Edinburg has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 25 contests by 21 points or more this season.
Edinburg's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Kimora Fagan led the charge by almost dropping a double-double on 26 points and nine rebounds. Fagan is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last 15 games she's played. Pharr-San Juan-Alamo has not been sharp recently as the team's lost three of their last four games, which put a noticeable dent in their 10-21 record this season. As for Edinburg, they pushed their record up to 32-2 with that win, which was their 19th straight at home dating back to last season.
Pharr-San Juan-Alamo took a serious blow against the Bobcats in their previous meeting back in January, falling 80-29. The game was all but decided by halftime, at which point Pharr-San Juan-Alamo was down 45-16.
