Volleyball Recap: Sacred Heart Prep Gators vs. Mercy Bears

After flying high against Notre Dame last Tuesday, Sacred Heart Prep came back down to earth. The Sacred Heart Prep Gators fell just short of the Mercy Bears by a score of 3-2 on Wednesday. While the Gators didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Bears 25-21 in the first set.

Sacred Heart Prep actually scored more points across those five sets (101-100), but sadly they still had to settle for second. The match finished with set scores of 21-25, 25-19, 25-20, 14-25, 15-12.

Peyton Fu-Sarosa and Alexis Verner certainly did their best on Wednesday to avoid the loss. Fu-Sarosa had 19 digs, while Verner had seven digs and three aces. That's the most aces Verner has posted in her last seven matches.

Mercy's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Lana Trehan led the charge by getting ten digs and 30 assists. Trehan is on a roll when it comes to assists, as she's now posted 13 or more in the last nine games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Clare O'Brien, who had six digs and 28 assists.

Sacred Heart Prep's defeat ended a six-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 17-14. As for Mercy, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 13 of their last 14 games, which provided a nice bump to their 22-5 record this season.
