Basketball Game Preview: Trimble Tomcats vs. Caldwell Redskins

The Trimble Tomcats will face off against the Caldwell Redskins at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The timing isn't great for Trimble: they have been struggling with five straight losses at home dating back to last season, while Caldwell has snatched up five consecutive wins on the road.

Back in December of 2024, Trimble ended up a good deal behind Athens and lost 53-34. The match marked the Tomcats' lowest-scoring contest so far this season.

Meanwhile, it was close, but on Monday Caldwell sidestepped Eastern for a 71-68 victory. Given the Redskins' advantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 118th, while the Eagles are ranked 471st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Caldwell's win came from a few key players Trimble will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Carter Wheeldin, who almost dropped a double-double on 19 points and nine rebounds. He has been hot for a while, having also posted two or more steals the last 16 times he's played. Another player making a difference was Dylan Schott, who went 8 of 13 en route to 20 points and three steals.

Caldwell was working as a unit and finished the game with 16 assists. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their assist total in three consecutive games.

Caldwell's win bumped their record up to 10-0. As for Trimble, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-8.

Trimble strolled past Caldwell in their previous meeting back in December of 2021 by a score of 65-51. One of the biggest obstacles trying to stand in the way of that victory was Caldwell's Bede Lori, who went 10 of 22 on his way to 31 points and seven rebounds. Now that he won't be playing on Tuesday, will it be easier for Trimble to walk away with another win? There's only one way to find out.
