Basketball Game Preview: Simon Kenton Pioneers vs. Conner Cougars

Simon Kenton and Conner are an even 5-5 against one another since January of 2017, but not for long. The Simon Kenton Pioneers are taking a road trip to challenge the Conner Cougars at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Simon Kenton has five straight victories, Conner has five straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the court.

Last Saturday, even if it wasn't a dominant performance, Simon Kenton beat Grant County 53-47. Given the Pioneers' advantage in MaxPreps' Kentucky basketball rankings (they are ranked fifth, while the Braves are ranked 64th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Meanwhile, Conner came up short against Highlands on Saturday, falling 58-32.

Simon Kenton's win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 11-2. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 61.5 points per game. As for Conner, their loss dropped their record down to 2-9.

Simon Kenton beat Conner 54-46 in their previous matchup back in January of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for Simon Kenton since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
