Recap: Northeastern Eagles vs. Camden County Bruins
The Northeastern Eagles had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 20.3 points), and they went ahead and made it four on Tuesday. They strolled past Camden County with points to spare, taking the game 61-45. Given Northeastern's advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 164th, while Camden County is ranked 445th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Tyell Saunders continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, scoring 27 points along with seven steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points he has scored all season. Jayden Alexander was another key contributor, scoring seven points along with two steals.
Camden County's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Xzavior Wiggins, who scored 12 points along with two steals. Another player making a difference was J'ron Pendleton, who scored five points along with five rebounds and two steals.
Northeastern is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven matches, which provided a massive bump to their 12-7 record this season. As for Camden County, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 9-12.
Northeastern won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against South Central at 7:30 p.m. on February 7th. Northeastern is on a three-game streak of home wins, South Central a six-game streak of away wins -- so someone will have to leave a streak behind on the court. As for Camden County, they will head out on the road to face off against Hertford County at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Camden County focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 18 on Tuesday.
