Baseball Game Preview: Cotulla Cowboys vs. Lytle Pirates

Cotulla is 0-10 against Lytle since March of 2021 but things could change on Tuesday. The Cowboys will look to defend their home field against the Pirates at 7:00 p.m. Cotulla has given up an average of 8.8 runs per game this season, but Tuesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Cotulla is coming in off a wild two-game stretch: after soaring to 25 runs on Tuesday, they were much more limited against Hondo on Friday. They lost 17-2 to the Owls.

Cotulla saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Frank Torres, who scored a run while going 1-for-3.

Meanwhile, it was close, but on Friday Lytle sidestepped Natalia for a 6-4 win. That's two games straight that the Pirates have won by exactly two runs.

Nicholas Pacheco was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out six over six innings pitched. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Lytle is 6-2 when he allows at most two earned runs, but 7-9 otherwise. Pacheco was also big at the plate, getting no hits from his an at bat. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in RBI (three).

Lytle hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Natalia struck out eight times.

Lytle has been performing well recently as they've won six of their last eight games. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-11 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.3 runs over those games. As for Cotulla, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-9-1.
