Recap: Canyon Cougars vs. Wagner Thunderbirds

After flying high against the Seguin Matadors last Tuesday, the Canyon Cougars came back down to earth. Canyon had to suffer through a rough 70-31 loss at the hands of Wagner. While losing is never fun, Canyon can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 578th, while Wagner is ranked 41st).

Wagner's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but La Sneed led the charge by dropping a double-double on 12 points and 11 assists. Sneed hasn't dropped below two steals for ten straight games. Another player making a difference was Nia Mcbride, who scored 15 points along with two steals.

Canyon has traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost three of their last four contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 10-13 record this season. As for Wagner, the victory (which was their seventh in a row) raised their record to 17-5.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Canyon will challenge Veterans Memorial at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Veterans Memorial is coming into the contest on a six-game losing streak. As for Wagner, they will head out on the road to square off against Pieper at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Pieper focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 12 on Tuesday.
