Softball Game Preview: Tompkins Falcons vs. Memorial Mustangs

The Tompkins Falcons will square off against the Memorial Mustangs at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Tompkins will be looking to extend their current three-game winning streak.

Last Friday, Tompkins beat Cinco Ranch 9-5.

Meanwhile, Memorial never let their opponents score on Friday. They blew past Cypress Creek 11-0. The Mustangs might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven matchups by eight runs or more this season.

Elise Adams made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit over four innings pitched. What's more, she posted four strikeouts, the most she's had since back in May of 2024. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Sophie Vlasak, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in February. Another player making a difference was Reese Waggoner, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, one triple, and one RBI.

Memorial is on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-2 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 4.0 runs on average over those games. Tompkins pushed their record up to 7-5 with the win, which was their fifth straight at home.

Tompkins suffered a grim 6-0 defeat to Memorial in their previous meeting back in May of 2024. Can Tompkins avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
