Basketball Recap: Dekaney Comes Up Short

Dekaney lost against Nimitz back in January of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Dekaney Wildcats had to suffer through a 68-18 loss at the hands of the Nimitz Cougars. While losing is never fun, the Wildcats can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 1184th, while the Cougars are ranked 335th).

Despite the defeat, Dekaney saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Sophia Collins posted eight points and three steals. Collins has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last three times she's played.

Dekaney dropped their record down to 4-14 with the loss, which was their 20th straight on the road dating back to last season. As for Nimitz, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 17-8.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Dekaney will head out to take on Aldine at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Dekaney is facing Aldine at the right time seeing as Aldine is stuck on a 17-game losing streak. As for Nimitz, they will face off against MacArthur at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. One thing working in Nimitz's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last three contests.
