Softball Game Preview: Corrigan-Camden Bulldogs vs. Hawkins Hawks

The Corrigan-Camden Bulldogs will head out to take on the Hawkins Hawks at 8:00 p.m. on Thursday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.

Corrigan-Camden is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Saturday. They were the clear victors by an 11-1 margin over Lovelady. The result was nothing new for the Bulldogs, who have now won ten matchups by six runs or more so far this season.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Hawkins). Everything went their way against Mildred on Friday as they made off with a 14-5 victory. The win was nothing new for the Hawks as they're now sitting on three straight.

Kalyn Ellison made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out 11 batters over seven innings while giving up three earned (and two unearned) runs off nine hits (and not a single walk). She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in nine consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with two triples, two RBI, and one run. Those three hits gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Alana Gipson was incredible, going 2-for-4 with three RBI, one triple, and one run. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April. Taetum Smith was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.

Hawkins' record is now 20-11-1. As for Corrigan-Camden, they are on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last ten contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 21-5-1 record this season.
