Recap: Eastlake Falcons vs. El Dorado Aztecs
The Eastlake Falcons entered their tilt with the El Dorado Aztecs with three consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with four. Eastlake walked away with a 43-30 win over El Dorado on Tuesday. Given Eastlake's advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 456th, while El Dorado is ranked 951st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Eastlake's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Aaron Vargas led the charge by scoring 12 points along with seven rebounds. That makes it three consecutive games in which Vargas has scored at least 25% of Eastlake's points. Mateo Lares was another key contributor, scoring six points along with four steals.
El Dorado's loss came despite strong showings from Quintez Floyd and Cristian Velasquez. Floyd scored two points along with nine rebounds, while Velasquez scored 11 points along with five rebounds. The game was Velasquez's third in a row with at least ten points.
Eastlake has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 14-11 record this season. As for El Dorado, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 6-14.
Eastlake will head out on the road to face off against Coronado at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Coronado is coming into the matchup on a four-game losing streak. As for El Dorado, they will look to defend their home court on Friday against Pebble Hills at 7:30 p.m.
