Baseball Recap: Northwest Christian School Wins Going Away Against Newport

Northwest Christian School got themselves on the board against Newport on Saturday, but Newport never followed suit. They put the hurt on the Grizzlies with a sharp 8-0 win. The Crusaders might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five matchups by eight runs or more this season.

Drew Bevan was a major factor no matter where he played. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out ten over seven innings pitched. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs while going 2-for-3.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Preston Mortlock, who went 2-for-4 with three RBI and one stolen base. Zeke Young was another key player, scoring a run and stealing two bases.

Northwest Christian School's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 6-2. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.7 runs over those games. As for Newport, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 3-2.

Coming up, Northwest Christian School will welcome Reardan at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. This will be Northwest Christian School's first chance to prove their worth in the conference. As for Newport, they will head out to square off against Kettle Falls at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
