Softball Recap: Taos Tigers vs. Robertson Cardinals

Taos won a close one the last time they played, but unfortunately they suffered a serious change of fortune on Tuesday. They wound up on the wrong side of a rough 17-4 walloping at the hands of the Robertson Cardinals. The result was an unpleasant reminder to Taos of the 15-0 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in March of 2023.

Arianna Gutierrez was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-2 with a triple, a stolen base, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Carrissa Sanchez, who went 2-for-3 with three stolen bases.

On Robertson's side, Taylor Quintana was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She struck out 16 batters over six innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off two hits. Quintana was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 1-for-4.

In other batting news, Ariana Sanchez was incredible, going 3-for-5 with a home run, four RBI, and two runs. Selah Marrujo was another key contributor, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 3-for-4.

Taos' defeat was their fourth straight at home dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 3-8. As for Robertson, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five games, which provided a nice bump to their 5-5 record this season.

Taos will head out on the road to face off against Espanola Valley at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. As for Robertson, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Ruidoso at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday.
