Basketball Game Preview: Lick-Wilmerding Tigers vs. Head-Royce Jayhawks

The Lick-Wilmerding Tigers and the Head-Royce Jayhawks will round out the year against one another at at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Lick-Wilmerding will be looking to extend their current seven-game winning streak.

Lick-Wilmerding's tournament run continued when they took on McClymonds on Saturday. Lick-Wilmerding came out on top against McClymonds by a score of 54-41. Given the Tigers' advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 101st, while the Warriors are ranked 542nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Meanwhile, Head-Royce didn't have too much breathing room in their match against East Union on Saturday, but they still walked away with a 60-55 victory. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Jayhawks.

Head-Royce pushed their record up to 5-5 with the win, which was their 22nd straight at home dating back to last season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 74.1 points per game. As for Lick-Wilmerding, their victory bumped their record up to 12-1.

Lick-Wilmerding came up short against Head-Royce in their previous meeting back in December of 2023, falling 39-29. Can Lick-Wilmerding avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
