Football Game Preview: Independence 76ers vs. Briggs Bruins

Independence is a perfect 9-0 against Briggs since September of 2015 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Friday. The 76ers will face off against the Bruins at 7:00 p.m. Independence has given up an average of 29.4 points per game this season, but Friday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Independence took a loss when they played away from home two weeks ago, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Friday. They walked away with a 56-44 victory over South. That looming 56-44 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for the 76ers yet this season.

Independence's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Robarje Magnus, who rushed for 190 yards and a pair of scores while picking up 11.2 yards per carry. That's the most rushing yards Magnus has posted since back in August of 2024. Another rusher making a difference was Gabriel Ogbara, who rushed for 119 yards and three touchdowns on only 15 carries.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Independence was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 343 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 175 rushing yards in seven consecutive games dating back to last season.

The home team had won the previous four meetings between Briggs and Eastmoor Academy, and Eastmoor Academy kept the tradition alive. The matchup between the Bruins and the Warriors didn't end well, with the Bruins falling 24-6.

Briggs now has a losing record of 2-3. As for Independence, they now have a winning record of 3-2.

Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Friday's contest: Independence has been on an offensive roll this season, having averaged 371.8 total yards per game. It's a different story for Briggs, though, as they've been averaging only 131.4 total yards. Will Independence be able to march up the field at their leisure again, or will the Bruins flip the script?

Independence didn't have too much breathing room in their game against Briggs when the teams last played back in October of 2024, but they still walked away with a 38-32 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the 76ers since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
