Softball Recap: Round Lake Comes Up Short

Round Lake had lost 15 straight at home dating back to last season, but on Saturday they dropped their record down to 2-6 to make it 16. They came up short against the Rolling Meadows Mustangs, falling 14-1. Having soared to a lofty 22 runs in the game before, the Panthers couldn't push the score so high this time.

Piper Berry was huge no matter where she played even without the win. On the mound, she struck out 11 batters over five innings while giving up four earned (and ten unearned) runs off nine hits. She has been consistent: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in six consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, earning one run and three stolen bases.

As for Rolling Meadows, their win bumped their record up to 5-10. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for they considering their two-run performance the contest before.

On Rolling Meadows' side, Chloe McQueen looked comfortable as she didn't allow a single hit and allowed only one earned run while striking out eight over four innings pitched.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Caylee Del Boccio, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with two stolen bases, four RBI, and one triple. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in May of 2024. Kelly McQueen also deserves some recognition as she hit her first triple of the season.

Round Lake has already played their next game, a 15-0 loss against Harvard on the 28th. As for Rolling Meadows, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next matchup, a 15-3 defeat against Buffalo Grove on the 28th.
