Softball Recap: Pontiac Indians vs. Edwardsville Tigers
Pontiac proved they can win big on Thursday (they won by ten) and on Friday they proved they can win the close ones too. They won by a run and slipped past the Edwardsville Tigers 1-0. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Indians also won the last time the pair played back in April of 2023.
The result came thanks to Elena Krause's shutout, as she gave up just two hits and racked up 16 Ks. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in ten consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Pontiac saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Izzy Hinz, who got on base in all three of her plate appearances with one stolen base.
Pontiac has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 16-6 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.6 runs over those games. As for Edwardsville, the loss snapped their winning streak at nine games and leaves them with a 19-5 record.
Coincidentally, Pontiac and Edwardsville will both be playing Lemont the next time they take the field. The Tigers will head out to face the Lemont HS at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, while the Indians will play them later in the day, at 11:45 a.m.
