Soccer Preview: Dixon vs. West Carteret
The Dixon Bulldogs will head out on the road to take on the West Carteret Patriots at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Dixon is coming into the contest hot, having won their last 14 games.
While Dixon's victory against Croatan wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Bulldogs sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 1-0 win over the Cougars on Friday. The final result isn't all the surprising considering Dixon's considerable advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina soccer rankings (they are ranked 20th, while Croatan are ranked 138th).
Dixon's one-goal win came courtesy of Aileen Lowman, who's now up to nine this season.
West Carteret had taken Swansboro down for three straight games at home, but that winning streak came to an end on Thursday. The Patriots took a 2-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Pirates. That's two games in a row now that West Carteret have lost by exactly two goals.
Dixon's victory was their seventh straight at home, which pushed their record up to 14-2-1. Those home wins came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only given up three goals over those seven games. As for West Carteret, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 6-10-3.
Dixon took their victory against West Carteret in their previous meeting back in April by a conclusive 4-0 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Bulldogs since the squad won't have the home-pitch advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
