Softball Recap: Fort Wayne Bishop Dwenger Takes a Loss

Fort Wayne Bishop Dwenger extended their losing streak to three on Saturday, dropping their season record down to 8-7 in the process. They took a 7-4 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Mishawaka Cavemen. If the Saints were looking for revenge after losing 11-1 to the Cavemen when the teams met back in May of 2023, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Fort Wayne Bishop Dwenger saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Abby Gillespie, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base and one RBI. Lydia Garrett was another, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base and one run.

As for Mishawaka, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 11-4. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.7 runs on average over those games.

On Mishawaka's side, Lilly St. Clair made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing seven innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off five hits. St. Clair was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Alexa Davis, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double. Another player making a difference was Khloe Hershey, who went 2-for-4 with two RBI.

Coming up, Fort Wayne Bishop Dwenger will challenge South Bend Adams at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday. The Saints' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Eagles have averaged an impressive 7.7 runs per game this season. As for Mishawaka, they will look to defend their home field on Monday against Warsaw at 5:30 p.m.
