Football Game Preview: La Vernia Bears vs. Davenport Wolves + How To Watch

Two dominant backs in TY CARTER and Barrett Fallon are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The La Vernia Bears will face off against the Davenport Wolves at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as La Vernia comes in on 11 and Davenport on 13.

La Vernia is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Friday. They enjoyed a cozy 31-13 victory over Calallen. That's two games straight that the Bears have won by exactly 18 points.

COOPER NULL continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, rushing for 181 yards and three scores while picking up 11.3 yards per carry. His longest rush was for an incredible 76 yards.

Meanwhile, Davenport strolled past Bay City with points to spare on Friday, taking the game 34-19. Given the Wolves' advantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 80th, while the Blackcats are ranked 206th) , the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

A big part of Davenport's win came down to the chemistry between Tristan Torrez and his top target Zayden Garza. Torrez threw for 202 yards while completing 73.1% of his passes while Garza gained 84 total yards and a touchdown. What's more, Torrez racked up 29 rushing yards, the most he's had since back in August.

One reason for the win was Davenport's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for five sacks. Peyton Yankie was particularly dangerous to the passing game, picking up two himself. He is also on a roll when it comes to total tackles, as he's now made seven or more in each of the last ten games he's played. Hayden Turner was another major factor on D, picking up a sack and making nine total tackles (2.0 for loss).

La Vernia's record now sits at 12-1. As for Davenport, their record is now 13-0.

Things could have been worse for La Vernia, but things could have been a whole lot better as they took a 45-31 loss to Davenport when the teams last played back in November of 2023. Can the Bears avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
