Softball Game Preview: Jacobs Golden Eagles vs. Lake Zurich Bears

The Jacobs Golden Eagles will take on the Lake Zurich Bears at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. Jacobs has given up an average of 6.9 runs per game this season, but Saturday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Thursday just wasn't the day for Jacobs' offense. They came up short against Huntley on Thursday, falling 11-0. The Golden Eagles have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Meanwhile, after only one run in their last contest, Lake Zurich made sure to put some runs up on the board against Waukegan on Wednesday. The Bears were the clear victors by a 19-1 margin over the Bulldogs. The Bears might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven matches by seven runs or more this season.

Kate Jenkins made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She struck out seven batters over four innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits (and only one walk). Those seven strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with one run and one RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Camryn Krysciak, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, five RBI, and three runs. Kendall Hull was another key player, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, two doubles, and two RBI.

Lake Zurich has been performing well recently as they've won seven of their last nine games. That's provided a massive bump to their 9-11-1 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.3 runs over those games. As for Jacobs, their defeat dropped their record down to 12-12.

Jacobs might still be hurting after the 22-11 loss they got from Lake Zurich in their previous meeting back in May of 2024. Can the Golden Eagles avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
