Softball Recap: Manton Rangers vs. Pine River Area Bucks
Manton had lost three straight on the road, but on Friday they dropped their record down to 6-7 to make it four. They lost 18-0 to the Pine River Area Bucks. The contest marked the first time this year in which the Rangers were not able to get on the board.
As for Pine River Area, the win (which was their 11th in a row) raised their record to 20-2. The result was nothing new for the Bucks, who have now won 14 games by seven runs or more so far this season.
For Pine River Area's part, Kylee Mumby made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Mumby has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
In other pitching news, Brook Dempkey looked comfortable as she tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. What's more, she posted two strikeouts, the most she's had since back in April.
Back at the plate, Lilly Felsk was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs and two RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Mary Nichols, who went 1-for-2 with three runs and one RBI.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Manton will challenge Houghton Lake at 4:15 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Pine River Area, they will head out to challenge McBain at 4:15 p.m. on Monday. The Ramblers have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 10.31 runs per game on average), something the Bucks will no doubt try to take advantage of.
